Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the stages of the menopause transition
  • Identify symptoms common in perimenopause and menopause
  • Consider broader health factors affecting mid-life women

Course Description:
While up to 90% of women in perimenopause/menopause experience symptoms prompting them to seek medical care, until recently, less than 1% of health research has included this population. The menopause transition impacts every system in the body, yet, in our quest to distinguish and address symptoms caused by hormonal changes, it’s important to consider that symptoms also may have other root causes.

This presentation covers stages of menopause, hormone functions, common symptoms, and the need to consider other factors like gut, brain, and mitochondrial health. Strategies may include both hormonal and non-hormonal options; as nutrition professionals, we can offer a holistic, personalized approach that includes dietary, nutrient, and lifestyle support.
